Palmers House in Bury St Edmunds has been successfully transformed from a long-standing vacant department store into a mixed-use development combining high-specification residential apartments over two retail units. The regeneration project delivered two ground-floor retail units and eight well-appointed apartments across the first to third floors, along with basement storage, extensive cycle storage facilities and a lift. Our team oversaw the full structural renovation including installation of a new steel support package, roof replacement and basement tanking to enable both retail and residential use. We worked closely with conservation officers and the building consultancy team to preserve historic fabric while accommodating modern services and access. The completed scheme provides vibrant town-centre retail frontage alongside high-quality living accommodation, demonstrating our capability to deliver sensitive conversion projects in heritage settings.
